Rubens Barrichello has accepted an apology from Michael Schumacher over the controversial incident between the pair in the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The former team-mates were lucky to avoid a collision at the Hungaroring after Schumacher forced Barrichello towards the wall in the closing stages of the race as the Brazilian attempted to secure the final points scoring position.

Barrichello came within inches of making contact with the concrete pit wall as he got ahead of the Mercedes driver, who was later handed a ten-place grid penalty – which he takes this weekend at Spa – by race stewards.

Although Schumacher issued a statement through his official website following the race to apologise to Barrichello, the German hadn't made an apology in person until today [Thursday] when he sent the Brazilian a text message ahead of the Belgian Grand Prix.

Barrichello revealed he had accepted the apology and was now keen to look ahead to the remainder of the weekend, when he celebrates his 300th GP.

“I received a message from him today via SMS,” Barrichello said. "Somebody said to him that I was under the impression he had pushed me on to the wall, and he said it wasn't the case and he apologised for that. I just said 'thank you, no problem'. I accepted it, wished him a good weekend, life goes on."

Schumacher himself said there were two reasons for his decision to send Barrichello a message – to both apologise for the Hungarian incident and to congratulate his former team-mate ahead of his 300th race.
