Liuzzi uninjured in Silverstone accident.

Italian driver Vitantonio Liuzzi has escaped injury after a heavy accident during the second day of testing at Silverstone.

Liuzzi, at the wheel of a Red Bull RB2 rather than his usual Scuderia Toro Rosso mount, was taking part in his first day of testing having not taken to the track on Tuesday, but went off at Becketts, damaging the car but emerging from a precautionary check at the Silverstone medical centre without injury.

"Going into Becketts, he lost control of the car and he's had quite a sizeable accident at 275kph (170mph)," Red Bull boss Christian Horner told ITV-F1.com. "The car got away from him but he's fine. At the moment we don't understand why it happened because he was going no faster or slower than on previous laps. The engineers are going through the data to try and see what happened."

The incident followed a tough start to the test for Red Bull, with Christian Klien and David Coulthard completing only 51 laps between them on Tuesday – compared to more than 100 for Nico Rosberg who was the busiest driver on track.

I dont understand Redbull strategy in swapping car for drivers. I feel, Liuzzi from STR driving Redbull will take time to get used to the car and doing soeeds at 275Kph on such cars can lead to accident.

Two accidents one of Albers and another this one, shows that the drivers are very safe inside their cockpit even at such high speed shunts. NK had a similar one. Sometime back Webber had an accident which left the car in exactly similar condition as that of NK's China shunt. The safety of this F1 car astonishing! Hats off to the Engineering marvel!
