Formula 1 / Jules Bianchi - Accident
« Last post by Vas on Mar 26, 15, 02:54 »
Months had flown. Jules Bianchi, 25-year old Frenchman and Marussia driver, still in coma after a terrible accident at the Suzuka, Japanese Grand Prix 2014. Jules Bianchi remains in a French hospital and doctors has begun a program of rehabilitation therapy, according to a statement released by his family earlier this month.
Jules Bianchi I still remember Jules Bianchi expressing his desire to race for Ferrari when the rumors are doing round that Fernando Alonso may seek drive else where in 2015. And he is considered as a deserving candidate!

Coming to the accident. Jules Bianchi skidded off the track in wet conditions and collided with a recovery vehicle. He suffered a brain injury which is called  as Diffuse Axonal Brain Injury.

Diffuse Axonal Brain Injury is actually one of the most common types of injuries, but also one of the most severe types that can lead to death. It is called diffuse because unlike some other brain injuries that are focal, in one generalized area; this type is widespread affecting a larger area.

Unlike some of the other brain injuries that may be caused by a blow to the head this one is different. Diffuse axonal brain injury is caused by the movement of the brain within the skull. As a closed head injury, this can be much more dangerous than an open head injury because of the tearing of the brain tissue and the swelling that can occur.

These movements, which are normally a back and forth type of movement, disrupt the nerve cells which allow the neurons to send messages between them.  Once those cells are disrupted and the links between them broken, the signally process can not occur and functions like movement, speech, and even those that support life can cease.

The road for recovery is long and uncertain for Jules Bianchi. For one thing is career in F1 is over and a bis question hangs over his head whether he can live a life independently.

Cause of the accident was probed by FIA. A committee was formed including prominent F1 icons like Ross Brawn etc., Committee pointed that not one but multiple factors lead to accident.

In my perspective, 4 points stand out in it. 1] Jules Bianchi did not sufficiently slow down under double yellow flags. 2] He applied both throttle and brakes while losing control 3] He tried to steer the car which lead to go off straight rather than swirl the way Sutil car went 4] The recover vehicle that is standing to rescue Sutil's car.

If Jules Bianchi arrived late by few seconds,he would have escaped with lessor injury.

This topic is to focus on 2 things. The recovery vehicle in the track. Even though FIA and F1 had come out with statistics to prove that it is normal to have the recovery van under double yellow flag, I feel it is the single big mistake that took away a talented race driver. When Sutil could slide and hit the barrier, it is a probability that someone else may again hit the same spot. It happened.  Instead of barrier you had a recovery truck standing to cause a grievous injury. F1 , Suzukha track authority and F1 are at fault. This was played down by the committee to avoid litigation. F1, FIA should be wise when addressing an issue that involves a driver with such career threatening injury.

Second, the configuration of the steering column & control, in the event of a driver applying both brakes and throttle. The car instead of stalling moved much faster. Even though how much speed increased during this time is not clearly estimated but there was an increase in speed. My opinion - Teams with low budget and running on shoe string budget creating organ donors in the form of race drivers. Unless F1 reduce cost makes profitable to run a team  - it is going to be a death trap to drive these cars. Hope F1, FIA wake up

Formula 1 / Nico Rosberg - Reality Check
« Last post by Vas on Mar 18, 15, 02:38 »
How many F1 drivers get this? You have a Championship winning car, no other car anywhere near yours to put pressure. You are in a race with only your team mate.

Whoever wins in such a circumstances, he is superior to his team mate. Any Doubts?

No matter the circumstances, you must win the championship, overall when there is no team order.

We had this type of season previously. This is embarrassing for the loser. The last such occasion was between Mark Webber and Sebastian Vettel. Before that Feranado Alonso and Giancarlo Fisichella in Renault.
Nico Rosberg
The latest is between Nico Rosberg and Lewis Hamilton. Round 1 victory for Lewis Hamilton. Round 2? If we go by Australian GP as an example, Lewis Hamilton is looking alarmingly untouchable.

But this may be the last chance to beat your mate and square up as the season progresses and moves to next season. You may not know where Mercedes will stand in the competition next year. This is your chance to make it as a Champion. Nico cannot have excuses, cannot say he did a mistake, cannot say he is yet to peak, cannot say it is not his day. Just has do it.

Will Nico do it? We have to wait and see. I don't want to predict. But if he does, he will ensure his name in the history.  For that, Nico has do right things and also do things right! The way Kimi Raikonnen and Feranando Alonso used to storm from the back of the grid and take the podium. The way Lewis Hamilton won races when given a slender chance. Have you seen such Nico Rosberg. If you see in Nico Rosberg such a person then you will see him as a champion this time.

Other wise he will be another Felipe Massa, Rubens Barrichello, Giancarlo Fisichella, Juan Pablo Montoyo, Mark Webber .....

Formula 1 / Fernando Alonso Riches to Rags
« Last post by Vas on Mar 17, 15, 07:15 »
What a disaster for the man. Looking back he will be cursing himself for the outburst he had in 2014 season -  foul mouthing Ferrari's performance. Ferrari, as always and no different from other F1 teams, worked secretly to find an alternative to throw him out. Came in the form of Sebastian Vettel.
Fernando Alonso
Alonso suddenly left without a seat for 2015 season. He even contemplated sitting out 2015 season only to end up with old adversary McLaren. Remember Kimi Raikonnen had similar issue with Ferrari. Ferrari is great in that respect. Kill a product if it is not useful.

Now Honda is in such big trouble like every other engine manufacturer went through in the initial stages (and still going through except Mercedes). Alonso is in wrong place at wrong time. Adding to that is the concussion he has suffered during the tests.

But a very good lesson for F1 drivers, keep the mouth shut and know the limits. After all you are a driver not the team owner. And not the only one driver who can drive a F1 car! Sergio Perez learnt some time back at McLaren and now Alonso at Ferrari.

Wonder how the world had turned upside down for a man who was considered as God in F1! Time only will tell what future holds for him.

Formula 1 / Van Der Garde vs Sauber
« Last post by Vas on Mar 12, 15, 01:16 »
It is nice to start the year with a controversy. Sauber vs Van der Garde. F1 is more fun due to this. In fact these controversies are more exciting than race itself.

Supreme court in Victoria has upheld the verdict given by the lower court which means Sauber cannot hide behind the safety issue. They have now 3 drivers for 2 cars for the Sunday race.

Also, this verdict is not for one race but for the entire season which means the money Sauber raised by selling the seats will not be fully available for it this season. (What about the other affected driver taking legal course?)

Back, in last session, I expected Sauber to wind up. But they managed to keep them afloat. But with this controversy - the writing is in the wall.

Van der Garde may have won the court case but in F1, tweeking the car set up a little bit can ensure he goes through hell during the race. Sauber will ensure that and using the performance clause will through him out of F1 for ever.  Because in F1 teams rules and every team will ensure Van der Garde not get another chance. :O

After a long time. We have moved to a different hosting provider. Star24x7 also will follow soon. F1 site being alive will rest in the hands of Bernie & Co. Right now fingers crossed. :)

But whatever the excitement level at least there will be postings in the blogs and a copy in the forum.

Sweet 2015. :D

Life / 5-Minute Management Course

Lesson 1:

A man is getting into the shower just as his wife is finishing up her shower, when the doorbell rings.

The wife quickly wraps herself in a towel and runs downstairs.

When she opens the door, there stands Bob, the next-door neighbor ?..

Before she says a word, Bob says, 'I'll give you $800 to drop that towel.'

After thinking for a moment, the woman drops her towel and stands naked in front of Bob, after a few seconds, Bob hands her $800 and leaves.

The woman wraps back up in the towel and goes back upstairs.

When she gets to the bathroom, her husband asks, 'Who was that?'

'It was Bob the next door neighbor,' she replies.

'Great,' t he husband says, 'did he say anything about the $800 he owes me?'

Moral of the story:

If you share critical information pertaining to credit and risk with your shareholders in time, you may be in a position to prevent avoidable exposure.

Lesson 2:

A priest offered a Nun a lift.

She got in and crossed her legs, forcing her gown to reveal a leg.

The priest nearly had an accident.

After c ontrolling the car, he stealthily slid his hand up her leg.

The nun said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'

The priest removed his hand. But, changing gears, he let his hand slide up her leg again.
The nun once again said, 'Father, remember Psalm 129?'

The priest apologized 'Sorry sister but the flesh is weak.'

Arriving at the convent, the nun sighed heavily and went on her way.

On his arrival at the church, the priest rushed to look up Psalm 129. It said, 'Go forth and seek, further up, you will find glory.'

Moral of the story:
If you are not well informed in your job, you might miss a great opportunity.

Lesson 3:

A sales rep, an administration clerk, and the mana ger are walking to lunch when they find an antique oil lamp.

They rub it and a Genie comes out.

The Genie says, 'I'll give each of you just one wish.'

'Me first! Me first!' says the admin clerk 'I want to be in the Bahamas, driving a speedboat, without a care in the world.'

Puff! She's gone.

'Me next! Me next!' says the sales rep. 'I want to be in Hawaii , relaxing on the beach with my personal masseuse, an endless supply of Pina Coladas and the love of my life.'

Puff! He's gone.

'OK, you're up,' the Genie says to the manager.

The manager says, 'I want those two back in the office after lunch'

Moral of the story:
Always let your boss have the first say.

Lesson 4

An eagle was sitting on a tree resting, doing nothing.

A small rabbit saw the eagle and asked him, 'Can I also sit like you and do nothing?'

The eagle answered: 'Sure, why not.'

So, the rabbit sat on the ground below the eagle and rested. All of a sudden, a fox appeared, jumped on the rabbit and ate it.

Moral of the story:
To be sitting and doing nothing, you must be sitting very, very high up.

Lesson 5

A turkey was chatting with a bull.

'I would love to be able to get to the top of that tree' sighed the turkey, 'but I haven't got the energy.'

'Well, why don't you nibble on some of my droppings?' replied the bull. They're packed with nutrients.'

The turkey pecked at a lump of dung, and found it actually gave him enough strength to reach the lowest branch of the tree.

The next day, after eating some more dung, he reached the second branch.

Finally after a fourth night, the turkey was proudly perched at the top of the tree.

He was promptly spotted by a farmer, who shot him out of the tree.

Moral of the story:
Bull Shit might get you to the top, but it won't keep you there..

Lesson 6

A little bird was flying south for the winter. It was so cold the bird froze and fell to the ground into a large field.

While he was lying there, a cow came by and dropped some dung on him.

As the frozen bird lay there in the pile of cow dung, he began to realize how warm he was.

The dung was actually thawing him out!

He lay there all warm and happy, and soon began to sing for joy.

A passing cat heard the bird singing and came to investigate.

Following the sound, the cat discovered the bird under the pile of cow dung, and promptly dug him out and ate him.

Morals of the story:
            (1) Not everyone who shits on you is your enemy.

            (2) Not everyone who gets you out of shi t is your friend.

            (3) And when you're in deep shit, it's best to keep your mouth shut!

Don’t just have career or academic goals. Set goals to give you a balanced, successful life. I use the word balanced before successful. Balanced means ensuring your health, relationships, mental peace are all in good order.

There is no point of getting a promotion on the day of your breakup. There is no fun in driving a car if your back hurts. Shopping is not enjoyable if your mind is full of tensions.

"Life is one of those races in nursery school where you have to run with a marble in a spoon kept in your mouth. If the marble falls, there is no point coming first. Same is with life where health and relationships are the marble. Your striving is only worth it if there is harmony in your life. Else, you may achieve the success, but this spark, this feeling of being excited and alive, will start to die. ……………….

One thing about nurturing the spark - don't take life seriously. Life is not meant to be taken seriously, as we are really temporary here. We are like a pre-paid card with limited validity. If we are lucky, we may last another 50 years. And 50 years is just 2,500 weekends. Do we really need to get so worked up? …………….

It's ok, bunk a few classes, scoring low in couple of papers, goof up a few interviews, take leave from work, fall in love, little fights with your spouse. We are people, not programmed devices..... ...." :)

"Don't be serious, be sincere."!!
